NYDIA'S GINGHAM TEA TOWEL

This great little tea towel takes a little time, but the finsished project is totally worth it!

Nydia just cut small slits in the linen.  Then she wove strips of ginham through the holes to create this checkered look.  Finally, zig zag stitch over the raw edges to secure your fabrics together.

Ta da!

COCKTAIL NAPKINS ::

start with 2 fat quarters

1.  trim your fat quarters to be the exact same size

(step 1 and 2 are easiest if you stack your fats one on top of the other, then you only have to cut once!)

2.  cut your fat quarters into fourths

option :: use scraps to add some spice to your napkins

3.  right sides together, stitch around all 4 sides
(make sure to leave yourself a 3" hole to pull your fabric back through!)

4. clip your corners and trim any excess seam allowance

5.  pull your napkin right side out and use a pointy tool to poke out the corners, then press your seams flat

6.  top stitch around the edge of your almost-finished napkin, this allows you to close the hole you left and add any decrative elements you can invent!

done!  now just enjoy a cocktail with friends
(gifty tip ::  add a small bottle of infused vodka* and they'll all want you as their secret santa)

*Infused Vodka Recipe ::
1.  Find an air tight jar
2.  Put the flavor of your choice in the bottom of the jar  (lemon zest, pineapple, apple/cinnamon, ginger, bacon, coffee, the possibilities are endless)
3.  Poor vodka over the top & put the lid on the jar
4.  Keep the jar in the fridge or on your counter for 1-2 weeks - shake them at least once a day
5.  Strain if necessary and enjoy!

I'm thinking...if you have the best idea - you can have it!  So, comments please!

LOOK WHAT CAME IN TODAY!

All it took was:
A. a giant freight truck with helpful mover & dolly
B. 3 different tools to get the METAL straps that were holding the box together off (the giant industrial wire cutters finally did the trick)
C.  a little blood - okay, a lot of blood, but I'll be okay, don't worry
D.  the help of a very sweet customer.

And that was just to get the sucker opened.

But it was totally worth it!  Knits, linen, silk...aahhh yes, spring is here.

This is Bridgett's space - she's one of the lucky ones, with her own sunny corner of the Brunswick Building.  (Although I can't say I envy that sewing machine.)

VINTAGE BLISS

As many of you already know, among our many (healthy) addictions is thrifting.
This love has inspired the third Project Selvedge Challenge:

For this challenge designers were asked to embrace the idea of in the old, out with new!   Each designer  chose a piece from our vintage collection.   This fabric needs to be used in their garment for the March 18th Fashion Show.  All the other materials must come from Secret Seconds (thanks Betty's Divine for your sponsorship of this!).  They also have $10 for notions here at Selvedge to complete their look.

There are 3 lessons that should be learned from this:

1.  Come to the show on March 18th at 6:30 here at Selvedge!  Sponsored, appropriately, by Upcycled.  Not only is upcycling hip and fashionable, but good for the planet (and soul).

2.  Check out our awesome collection of vintage fabrics here in the shop (and if you are so unfortunate as to live somewhere else - we are starting an etsy shop and adding new stuff all the time).

3.  You can also visit our booth at the Montana Antique Mall!  #57
